If you are at all familiar with the world of nutrition, chances are you’ve seen the science proving garlic to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet. For humans, the composition of plant chemicals in garlic are anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial/viral and even anti-cancer, which explains why it has garnered so much attention.

While it’s certainly a good idea to urge family members to consume more of the miraculous plant food on a daily basis, what about the other, non-human members of our family? Unfortunately, our beloved canines and felines do not enjoy the same incredible health benefits eating garlic provides us, it actually has the opposite effect. In fact, the consumption of even the smallest amount of garlic can lead to severe toxicity and can be fatal if not promptly treated. 

In light of this information, it seems ridiculous that some pet food companies would still risk including garlic as an ingredient in their products. Nevertheless, you can eliminate the risk of poisoning altogether by carefully reading ingredient lists to ensure garlic – onion as well – is not added to the food.
