Blog ~ A Few Words from Dr. Goodpet - macadamia nuts

Posted by

1. Almonds

Dogs LOVE the taste of almonds, but their digestive systems are ill-equipped to digest them properly. Feeding them almonds can lead to a number of gastrointestinal distress complications.

2. Black & English Walnuts

Black walnuts contain a toxin called juglone that’s been linked to causing vascular disease in horses called laminitis. While it hasn’t shown to cause this problem in canines these as well as English walnuts can still cause issues with digestion including possible obstruction.

Additionally, both types of walnuts cover with mold easily. Mold contains tremorgenic mycotoxins that have been linked to causing seizures and/or neurological symptoms in dogs.

3. Macadamia Nuts

Macadamia nuts contain unknown toxins that have shown to possibly cause neurological symptoms in canines.

4. Pecans

Pecans, like walnuts, also contain juglone. and, like most all nuts, they can cause obstruction. Moldy pecans can also cause seizures or neurological symptoms.

So, long story short, please keep your dogs away from any type of nut just to be on the safe side. And, if your dog is currently having digestive issues, we offer the highest quality  canine digestive enzymes on the market.
